Annoying Conspiracy Theories

We now live in a world of myriad conspiracy theories.
Rather than accept faults and admit errors, folks simply cook up
theories about how others have conspired against them.
A few examples will suffice:

Before his inglorious exit, Gadaffi blamed "the West" for the Benghazi
insurrection.
Even the character in Syria is saying the same thing presently.
Perhaps, these leaders suppose that their people do not know whether
they are being oppressed or not until "the West" tells them.

Back home, our own government told us that "the cabal" sponsored the
labour strike.
Meaning, perhaps, that we do not know the pain of price increase until
we are "sponsored" to protest.
But this is not what I am going to talk about.

Here I am concerned with the recent mass murders in the north east of Nigeria.
Some FB friends of mine have ceaselessly re-posted some messages that
have marvelled me.
Some of them go thus:

Some Christians were caught while trying to plant bomb at a church.
And they were all dressed like Muslims.

The police arrested the people that killed Igbo men in Mubi and they
turned out to be their kinsmen who killed them over business dispute.

The people who sprayed two churches in Gombe and Yola with bullets,
killing scores of worshippers, were actually christians from rival
denominations.

Even as these have been said, perhaps soon other ones will come, like:

The person in that Youtube video with further threats on christians,
was actually an Igbo christian.

Or

The suspect that escaped from the police was truly an Igbo christian
and that's why "they" conspired and released him.

I understand the desire to defend one's faith. I also acknowledge that
one needs to align with his or her people. It is also true that we
hardly see anything wrong in ourselves and in those we love. But
wisdom demands that we also respect other people's intelligence by
allowing them exercise their own common sense.

A wise parent admits that the wayward child is his or hers but
publicly denounces the child's actions. That way other will know that
the parent does not support the child in the evil way he or she has
chosen.

Enough of these conspiracy theories. Muslims have died and so have
Christians, they are all Nigerians. Let us condemn this tradition
where the life of one Nigerian is thrown to the dogs simply because
she or he isn't us.
