And Michael Jackson was Right!

I have tried to get an answer But all to no avail.   Didn't one country predict that Nigeria will collapse by 2015?  And rather than do something positive  Our leaders condemned the speaker and their people. Gadaffi, of blessed memory (still hard to believe), Once said something too about the state of affairs of Nigeria What did they do? They condemned him. Told him to shut up if he didn't have anything to say. Some people accused Nigeria of harbouring terrorists What did they do again? Denial. Full face, denial even with the capture of the under-wear bomber What did we do? As a people, we believed them They told us that nothing was happening That all is well That we should go about our normal businesses That they are on top of the situation And we, unwittingly made the greatest mistakes of our existence Believed people who do not believe themselves! Now we have seen it They cannot even protect themselves  And they still tell us the same lies we have always believed. I

Annoying Conspiracy Theories

We now live in a world of myriad conspiracy theories. Rather than accept faults and admit errors, folks simply cook up theories about how others have conspired against them. A few examples will suffice: Before his inglorious exit, Gadaffi blamed "the West" for the Benghazi insurrection. Even the character in Syria is saying the same thing presently. Perhaps, these leaders suppose that their people do not know whether they are being oppressed or not until "the West" tells them. Back home, our own government told us that "the cabal" sponsored the labour strike. Meaning, perhaps, that we do not know the pain of price increase until we are "sponsored" to protest. But this is not what I am going to talk about. Here I am concerned with the recent mass murders in the north east of Nigeria. Some FB friends of mine have ceaselessly re-posted some messages that have marvelled me. Some of them go thus: Some Christians were caught while trying

And He Escaped...

Shame! Shame!! Shame!!! I ask: Is there an end to the amount of SHAME that we have to live with as a nation? While Lagos is being harassed by gun-totting soldiers, the north east is being ravaged by bomb-throwing civilians whose anger has become so explosive that everyone is being affected negatively. While security agencies are hunting down harmless demonstrators, some folks have so taken powers into their hands that no where is safe for anyone. For anyone that thinks he or she is benefiting from the entire disorder in the land, it is only for a short while. But that is not what I am talking about! Someone was arrested.  He is accused of being the master-mind of mass death on Christmas day. The Nigerian press was silent about it Until he escaped! Escaped? Did I hear correctly, "escaped?" How did that happen? So many innocent people are languishing in police detention And none has been able to escape Now, this high profile " has suspect" e

Now that the Strikes Are Over for Now ...

I speak for myself, me alone! I do not represent anyone but my little self So keep an open mind. Please! The leadership of my country must have been overwhelmed by the massive protests that greeted their insensitive and ill-conceived re-regulation of the downstream sector of the oil industry. Who would have thought that the almost-always-easily-polarised Nigerian masses could amass such strength in unit? And as usual, they came up with so many conspiracy theories: "It is the cabal that is financing the protests!" And when it did not work, they came with another: "Hoodlums and those who failed in the elections have/will hijack the protests to cause mayhem ..." And with that, soldiers left the barracks for the streets. The government has to maintain security, law and order, blah blah blah! Who is fooling who? Now before we knew what hit us, pump price of fuel shot up from 65 naira to 97 naira ... And I thought that if they ever did that, the nation
