Father, Na de Same People!

So nPDP, G7 or whatever you can call it, has finally ported to APC?
Someone aptly asked: "So the (self-professed) progressives have joined
the retrogressives?"
Another person suggested that a Cross-Carpeting Commission be set up
To take care of the incessant inter-party mobility of Nigerian politicians.
And they announced it so unashamedly, after all the grandstanding.

It is normal for me because of my distrust of the Nigerian politician
They are jobless, greedy, self-serving and above all shameless
Their only ideology is how to steal the national treasury blind
Tell me, if they have shame, with what mouth will they shout APC slogan now?
With which hand will they hold brooms now
After holding umbrellas since the dawn of the fourth republic?

Just imagine Kwakwanso and Shekarau in the same party
Rotimi and Buhari
Babangida Aliyu and Tinubu
Can you see the sham called politicians in Nigeria?
They are in APC not because their new hosts have a better ideology
But because they cannot reach a settlement with the president
If they had any enduring conviction about their former party, they
should have known that GEJ's era will soon pass and the party will
remain

Now am sounding like a PDP apologist
Far be it from me
This incident further confirms my belief that the problem with Nigeria isn't PDP
Nor is it any political party
The problem with Nigeria is the Nigerian politician
And his or her lack of commitment and people-centered ideology

APC may look like the better bride now
But certain events have made me know that it will be a worse
alternative in its present constitution
The first is the manner of its making and the congregation of strange bed mates
Something we have always known to be the bane of PDP

The second is the choice of Ngige as its guber candidate in Anambra
I expected a party that professes to be better than PDP to put its
money where its mouth is by conducting a credible primaries in Anambra
But they went the normal Nigerian way of imposing candidates to show
that it is not a PDP thing

The third is the manner it is receiving members who found it hard to
survive in other parties
Credible people do not accept everybody
They are selective unlike PDP and now APC

Finally, I will continue to view APC with suspicion until next year
When they must choose a presidential flagbearer
When they do that democratically, then I will agree they have
something better than PDP
For now, what they did in Anambra isn't helping at all
And the manner they are welcoming former PDP people whom they say are
undemocratic
How democratic can they be after all this piebald blend?

Learning Deutsch

The first time we arrived purposely to learn German, we were so enthusiastic. For me, I haven't really sat down to learn a new language, perhaps because there are no formalised institutions for learning Nigerian languages as in Germany. And that strikes me as odd! No one seems to have discovered that we could actually create formalised outlets for learning some, if not all, of our 250 languages. If that had existed, I could have spent time learning good Hausa formally in the six years that I spent teaching in Gombe.  But again, there is yet another snag: why would one pay, sometimes heavily, to learn a language that perhaps has little or no global presence?
