ANOTHER NYANYA BOMB BLAST: AND THEY ARE STILL SITTING TIGHT?

The success or otherwise of a nation is predicated on the value it
places on the lives of its citizens. It then follows that a leader's
acceptability is dependent on how the death of just one citizen
affects his or her decision. Regrettably, in my country, our lives are
worth nothing above are meddlesome horde of cockroaches whose lives
need be snuffed out by a spray of insecticide.

Scores of innocent, law-abiding citizens died in the first Nyanya
bombing. Their leader visited the scene promptly and shed tears for the
camera. Moments later, he was in Kano dancing to re-election songs.
Those potential voters who died that morning have suddenly ceased to
matter. But a week later, his deputy's brother died and a whole
Federal Exco Council meeting was shelved in his honour. And you are
telling me these people care about me? Isn't it obvious that the only
thing they care about is their purses and themselves?

Now, coupled to the Chibok kidnappings, the unreported mayhem in
Wukari and environs, the disappearance of "calm" in the lexicon of
Borno, Yobe and Adamawa, another coordinated bomb attack has just been
successfully carried out in the nation's capital. Before dawn, series
of sirens will blare to the site to mock the dead with their deadened
consciences!

Shame on leaders who are so selfish that they've sworn to rule over a
land of carcasses and vultures other than hand over power! Shame on a
lethargic populace that watches in complacency as they are being
preyed upon by the whims and caprices of a heinous few!

I have grown beyond being deceived by the immature political
abracadabra of my country's numbskull elites. The problem of this
country is not PDP neither will APC bring any reasonable change
anywhere (seeing its present constitution is enough indication). I am
not also swayed by ethnic or religious grandstanding that has
consistently dragged the nation downhill. This is because I am
convinced that those who ride to power on the wings of being Muslim or
northerner or Hausa/Fulani, will not bring any meaningful change to
this country. We have seen it in the over 30 years of northern rule in
the country. Neither will a Christian, southerner, minority or
majority ruler make any meaningful impact anywhere. This is what
Obasanjo and GEJ's rules have shown. A transition from PDP to APC
based on any of these structures will also spell further doom on this
British conjecture called Nigeria!

What we need is a Nigerian president; one that recognises the
ethno-religious diversity of this country and would love Nigerians
more than Nigeria. One that will replace incompetent aides and
wouldn't be compelled to embark on re-election campaigns by "his
people" (instead of Nigerians) while the nation boils, burns and
disintegrates under his watch.

I tell you a secret: sometimes, I honestly do wish that we make a
foreigner the president. Of course, he or (preferably) she will not
have ethnic and tribal leanings. And in spite of my religious
leanings, I also wish this person will be an atheist or at least not a
religious person, so that dirty politics can be separated from
religion and the true preachers of religion can be separated. And we
the much-traumatised citizens can go to church or mosque and not be
further morally raped by the presence of a thieving politician in the
front pew/row!

A people who want their own government do not sit still and watch
events unfold. They take hold of their destinies and shape it!
