THE FOLLY OF THOSE WHO SHOULD KNOW BETTER IS INSULTING

I read yesterday what the Kano governor has to say about the situation
in his state since the enthronement of SLS as the new emir of the
ancient city. In the interview, he purportedly pointed accusing
fingers on Abuja for the on-going "sponsored" protests in Kano and the
siege on the Emir's palace. To say that I am disappointed by the tone
of the governor's utterance is an understatement. The manner of
disrespect for a sitting president is so unbecoming of someone who is
also vying for the highest position in the land. Would he like to be
addressed the same way if and when he becomes the president at any
time.

With the growing insecurity in the land, those in positions of
authority in especially volatile areas like Kano, should know how to
keep the peace by making guarded statements.

And as if the governor's misguided vitriolic isn't enough, the voluble
ex-minister of the FCT, this evening remarked on his Facebook page
that paid mischief makers have been hired by "Jonathanians" to create
mayhem in Kano after Ju'mat prayers.

Chai! ...

I remember during the Anambra gubernatorial elections that this same
drama-queen emeritus, whose latest job is to cry foul at the slightest
self-inflicted provocation, was in Awka. He wasn't a registered voter
in the state nor was he an accredited election observer, and yet he
was crying foul for being stopped from moving around as he pleased
when everyone else were at their polling units voting.

What did he want to do in Anambra that required him to move around
unlike everyone else? I am not going to attempt an answer because
somehow this ex-favourite government official of mine has developed a
predilection for going against reason and good judgment.

I have so far resisted the urge to mention their newly found political
association which seems to be making some of these certified PDP men
inebriate. Why is it that it is mainly these former PDP stalwarts that
are making the most noise in the new APC? Check the list: the
governors of Kano, Adamawa and Rivers; the ex FCT minister; the former
VP; etc. In fact the former VP is reported to have said that during
his campaigns, he'll reveal all the "atrocities" that PDP has
committed. And while his supporters applaud, may I ask: will his
revelations also include the ones committed under his watch as PDP VP
for 8 good years?

I stand to be corrected, the day I lost faith in credible opposition
in Nigeria was the day APC opened their arms to these PDP people! Now
see, they are the ones making the most noise; inciting hate and
division; promoting discord and rancour in the name of politicking. If
you are in doubt, go back to all Kwankwanso and El-Rufai have been
saying about the presidency since SLS' ascendancy to the throne of
Kano Emirate.

May I ask them: is there no possibility that there are some Kano
people who are genuinely perturbed by the emergence of SLS over other
contenders? Is it a must that Jonathanians are responsible for the
protests? Before we take sides, let's look at the matter properly. Why
is it that those who are at the vanguard of SLS' ascendancy are mostly
ex-PDP, now APC stalwarts? Where's Buhari, Tinubu, Fashola, Shettima,
etc? And even Amaechi had to fly from PH to go turban an emir in Kano?
Hmmm! Make una check am o, whether it isn't all the arm-twisting you
did that has brought up the wahala in Kano!

Don't ask me, cause I don't know the answers. All I know is that so
long as these kind of people represent the opposition, there is no
opposition in Nigeria. Or tell me, what is it that will stop any of
them from running back to the PDP after getting office? Their problem
with the party for now is that they have temporarily lost out in the
scheme of things. As such, the nation can burn, hence their unguarded
utterances.

Let me say once again that the problem of governance in Nigeria isn't
because of PDP, APC, APGA, etc is good or bad. The problem is the
harlotry and gluttony of the Nigerian politician. They have NO
permanent party affiliation. It is sad that those who should know
better do not know what to say and when it is appropriate to say them.
An adage says: "The difference between a smart person and a wise
fellow is that the smart person knows what to say but the wise fellow
knows whether to say it or not!"
